Academic Advising in Earth & Climate Sciences
New majors, minors, and transfer students will have an initial advising appointment with Dr. Leech or Dr. Dekens to discuss the degree program. Then you will be assigned a permanent advisor with one of our faculty members based on your interests and our availability.
All Earth & Climate Sciences majors have mandatory academic advising each semester to plan courses for the upcoming semester to keep you on track for an on-time graduation. A hold is automatically placed on your SF State record — you will not be able to register for classes until that hold is released. Your assigned academic advisor will release the hold on your record at the end of each advising session. Be sure to make an appointment with your academic advisor at least 2 weeks before your registration window opens.

General Education advising at the Student Success Center
In addition to academic advising in Earth & Climate Sciences, you should get advising for General Education requirements through the Student Success Center in the College of Science & Engineering on an as-needed basis. The advisors at the Student Success Center can also answer general questions about university policies, forms, etc.
Keep track of your academic progress toward graduation using the Degree Progress Report found on the Student Center.
